Default Replacement idler pulley doesn't spin?

My idler pulley was sqwealng so I bought all new pulley and belt when I tightened down the idler it doesn't spin anymore the metal dust cover peice doesn't fit flush against the baring and rides in the plastic part of the pulley I called autozone and they confirmed it was the part # they called for. Anyone have an idea of why it's shaped differently?

It's either wrong or you have to use a different washer. It's happened to me before with aftermarket idler pullies.

Most aftermarket ones don't require the dust shield.

It doesn't need the dust shield. I got mine from NAPA and it is the same.

Default Had the same problem ADD a spacer washer

Got the pulley and tightened the bolt. Pulley rubs and does not clear at the bearing. Solution add a washer to give clearance when bolt is tight. The shield will also fit if you simply add a washer to give the clearance needed.

i've seen both metal and plastic for these. the few aftermarket ones i looked at were all the later design for the 01+ cars

could be a difference in earlier cars?

why didn't you just get ac delco off amazon? at least with delco parts you don't have surprises

I ran into the same problem with an aftermarket replacement. Ordered an OEM - problem fixed.
