Instrument Cluster "High Voltage"
When I get in the car and turn her on, all the needles or gauges would max out, and it would display "Check Gauges" and "High Voltage". I notice that if you drive it for approximately 25-30 minutes, all the gauges would work for a good few minutes and it would just repeat the process.
I've been searching all over the forum and reading, but it seems like it could be anything from ignition, regulator, alternator, ground wires, battery, etc. But we just got a new battery put in as well as an alternator and there seems to be no luck.
I dropped off the car at a local shop that has a good rep and they have had the car for about 2 weeks now and they tried switching out a new ignition and apparently that seems to be acting out worst than the ignition already on the car.
I finally got a call today from the shop and they told me that now they are 90% sure everything is in the instrument cluster and told me that they will need to order some parts and repair the whole cluster. I was quoted $1700.00 for all of this.
Is that a decent price? Is that even the problem? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I know I came off with a strong first post, but I will be lurking around often!
I have the info for this at home. It can be done by measuring voltages at the fuses inside the car. Very simple.
If it were the IPC, you can get a good used one for less than $250 and put it in yourself. Easy to do even for a novice and I have links to show you how. Would have to have the odometer reset which the dealer can do for maybe no more than $150.
I am curious if they verified voltages or just hoping it is the IPC.
