Have you checked all of the welds on the exhaust system? I have the Corsa Indys and mine used to "backfire" until I had the muffler shop fix the broken weld at the point where they bolt to the factory exhaust. The "backfire" noise has all but gone away! I believe that you probably have a exhaust leak somewhere in your system. Hope that helps :) .
From everything that has been described, and you mods, I would say it's normal.
The Corsa system uses passive reflective technology to muffle the exhaust (180 degree out of phase from the source). When the smooth flow of gas through the system is disrupted when you're off the throttle, the system does not work as well and you end up with more noise. In addition, due to the nature of the technology, it's not nearly as efficient in containing transient sounds.
My Indy system pops and bangs like crazy, especially on the track...
Mine started the backfire thing today :mad I have Indys as well. Mine is a little different though. I get the usual poping in deceleration and occasionally a quick BANG. It is a backfire and not the normal poping.
Even more troublesome is the fact that I can be at a stoplight now and expect it to backfire at least once. Scares the BeJeezus out of everyone nearby. I had it on a lift today at a dealership in Oklahoma City and found an exhaust leak on both sides where the pipes fit into the mufflers. (Black SOOT) on both sides.
Could this cause the backfire? Any ideas are appreciated. I will have a shop weld these puppys soon and post whether or not it helps.
