This has happened a few times, latest was this morning, car suddenly turns off, the chime sounds and I have to re-start. I have no messages on the DIC, and I have not pulled codes yet. Just wondering if anybody has had this happen to them, its a 1997, any input appreciated.
Just finished checking codes, no current codes only two history codes showing on the DIC. Could I have a oil pressure sensor dropping out indicating no oil pressure, battery is optima Red Top which came with the car when I bought it some 8 years ago, but has not given me any problems. Thanks Guys.
Have you had any issues with it starting? Do the guages sweep correctly when you start it? Mine shut off on me last week, and I believe it was related to the ignition switch.
8 Year old RED TOP????? Good luck brother. Ive see older batteries work well in other cars but,,, your C5 is VERY sensitive to low voltage.
Have the battery FULLY TESTED. If it has poor CCA and Reserve capacity, replace it!
YES,, the TAC modules in 97 & early 98 C5s were known to be weak. The one in my 98 failed. When the car DIES,, without doing anything to the ignirion switch, clear any messages and read the codes.
The Ignition Switch can also cause the same issues. KNOWN C5 issue.
Thanks for the help, I have written down the codes, but they are at home and I am at work today, I also cleared all the codes so next time it happens I can write them down before re-starting. The three times it's happened was while I was slowing down approaching a stop sign, maybe that's a clue, anyway I am planning on buying a new battery this weekend. I will re-post with codes when this happens again if the new battery dos not correct the problem, again thanks for your advise. Regards; Marty
