My 2004, C5, 6 speed, has a current draw of over 5 amps at the battery that will drain the battery over night. I Checked + side red cables found that the smaller cable going to inside fuse panel passenger foot well, was pulling all the current. Went to the fuse panel at the passenger side foot well and found that fuse # 5 (RCO/CD 15A) was pulling over 1.2 amps and fuse #25 (BCM1 & IPC 10A) was pulling over 5 amps. I have never had a problem with this car and only drove it 1600 miles last year. Went to visit my dad who lives 360 miles away, everything worked fine, and parked the C5 at my dad's house, battery drained over night. Jump started the C5 and drove it home, again no issues everything seemed OK, but then once home battery started draining again. Took battery to store found it was bad replaced with a new battery and it did the same thing. I used an amp meter to find out which cables were drawing the current then just removed the fuses one by one to find the fuses that were pulling the current. Really could use some help before I have to take it to the dealer.
I used an ammeter to isolate the current drain to the two fuses I mentioned, #5 and #25. I checked all the lights, alternator works good, there was no current drain from the engine fuse box, with everything off car not running there is a 6 amp current drain. The problem must be something to do with those two fuses, but I have no way of tracing it thru the circuit. Any ideas how to troubleshoot the short at those two fuses?
Well I did as you suggested and checked switches, etc. found a CD still in the radio, don't know if that had anything to do with it and also found that the light switch had been moved all the way clockwise. I reinstalled the battery turned on the ignition switch and it told me pull key wait 10 seconds. So I pulled the key and waited 10 seconds, started car and everything appeared to be OK. I then made checks of the battery voltage from then until 8:00 this morning and the battery read 12.50 volts. So whatever was locked in making the current drain has managed to go away. I will monitor the battery voltage for the rest of the weekend and see how things go. Thanks for the help I hope this was just a glitch.
