Ive been sorting out issues with my c5 since I bought it. Each time I fix something, a new issue comes up to add to my list. Fixed A/C last week. Changed BCM and did successful relearn yesterday. I think the transmission is toast today. It's an automatic. Does anyone know if the automatics are interchangeable from 97 thru 04? I think I found a deal on a low mile 04 but also know where a 98 model is local.
I've tried searching on this site and haven't turned up any info that would lead me to believe that they aren't interchangeable. I think my problem is actually the differential but I'm not sure what it takes to separate the two.
Car has been driving fine. Then after a short trip across town it started making a grinding noise. It will go forwards but not over about 10 mph without making the grinding noise and seeming to jump out of gear. Wont back up at all. Just makes the grinding noise.
I put it on jack stands and put it in park to and tried turning each wheel to rule out an axle issue.
Gotta be differential I think. Any input would be appreciated.
After further research I now believe the problem is the sunshell gear. I think it's actually probably 2nd and reverse. Thats supposedly the sign of a stripped or cracked sunshell gear.
