I just bought the entire ashtray insert, this lid supports the outer cover flap, giving it spring action. Mine was cracked anyway and the cost was negligible from GM parts house.. Without the inner ashtray and the spring in the inner lid, the outside cover won;t work, even thought it looks like it should be functional.
