Trouble is it to get the oil pump pickup tube bolt off, so the pump can be removed. Looks hard to get to with the block in the car. Radiators are still in also. Anyone with experience please chine in.
I don't remember which color it was but what I do remember is pinching mine & having to strip it back down & redo it ,so be very careful not to pinch the o ring, look @the front cover & how does the seal fit into the hole ,I don't think u can put the seal in backwards bro, pull the o ring out & which ever one is the same thickness as the one u pulled outof yyour motor is the one I'd be putting back in it, good luck bro
alright troops: I got the cover off and the oil pump out. I bought a FelPro gasket kit. and I have 2 prolly silly questions.
1 Which O-ring is to be used for the oil pickup tube.
A. Red B. Black c. Green.
2 Which is the front or forward direction for the Crank Seal?
Things are going better than I thought they would. and I was surprised how good the chain looked. The gears look new.
But it is getting a new chain.
You guys are the best...
the smooth side of the seal faces outward . be sure 2 buy installation tool for the new pump and the front cover so they stay centered on the crank . also DO NOT re use the damper bolt if it is a stock one or u will have trouble . also if u have a automatic trans. u will need 2 buy a flywheel lock tool in order 2 reach the 250ft lbs of torque needed 2 properly tighten the Damper. good luck

When I replaced my balancer (and timing chain), last year, I didn't realize that the timing cover gasket set would include an assortment of oil pump o-rings. Therefore, I ordered the o-ring under a separate part number, specifically for my application, as called out in the FelPro catalog listing ('01 Corvette) and got the red one, so that's what I used....

SAC corvette has a tool (not the GM one), or you can center off the new balancer. If you center off the new balancer you can not stall with the install, since you need to RTV the bottom of the cover (See LS1 how to's cam thread).
I think what I posted using feeler gauges will work on the pump.

that sac corvette tool is a great price and it works for centering pump , and the cover as well as being a seal installation tool for the cover seal
Made a little headway today. Got the timing chain and gear installed.Rotated the crank 2 full turns and It still lined up.Than Installed the fuel pump, hooked up the pipe without dropping the bolt into the pan. I wrapped a piece of .015 stainless wire around it and back across the head so when it all starts to go BLACK, you have a chance to save the day. After that I installed the cover using a New gasket and sealer. It is 98 deg out in the garage and I took a break Than took a propane torch and warmed the H Balancer. Slid it in place than ran it on with the install kit. Not near the Debacle that I though it would be. My bolt didn't show Friday So Ill have to wait till it shows to finish , but I did reinstall the water pump. AGAIN I couldn't have Or wouldn't have done this without you great people. Hopefully my bolt will be here Monday.
