I noticed my automatic inside mirror doesn't seem to be tilting at night and the map lights aren't working. The amber light works. I also don't understand what the auto dim button on the mirror does. The manual missed that. What gets dimmed???
Obviously you didn't understand post #2. Must be a management type and definitely not a technical type.
Definitely not a techie - scares me but I will stand on a stage and lead an audience. And to think my father was an elec eng!!!
I did find that the glove box & under hood lite are out. I've been pouring over the manual to find a 2nd fuse as was suggested but don't find one. I didn't dismiss any suggestion-just starting to understand. I have a lot happening as I am traveling the country for 6 mo in a motor home with the vette inside a trailer

#21 fuse good. Can't find another for the mirror. Can't find one for the glove box & hood lites.
Would you please first check what was requested in Post 2.
First check Fuse #2 in the passenger fuse box. We know it feeds the mirror and the other two lights that are out.
If the fuse looks OK it may not be. If you can't test it then put another fuse in that slot. You could have a circuit issue and not a fuse problem but I doubt it.
If fuse #2 is good, which I seriously doubt, then relay 37 in that same fuse box. That relay seldom fails but I have seen it on one or two occasions.
Both items control the switch operated map lights on the mirror, glove box light, vanity mirror lights and under hood light. Inadvertent load control.
Thanks, 8VETTE7, I was sidetracked by different responses. The fuse diagram uses names that mean nothing to a novice. Even putting cover back on was a pain as the lettering on the box has to be upside down. Never thought it for awhile. Hard to believe they used more than one fuse for a mirror and not be clear about it.
That's why when we give advice it is after reading the factory schematics.
Thanks everyone, I replaced the #2 fuse and everything is working.
Can anyone tell me why that particular fuse would blow. I do understand about something overheating, a jolt maybe. I live in a motor home so I'm getting more familiar with electronics but this fuse blowing is curious. Maybe they just wear out but it's a piece of metal.
Fuses are designed to "open circuit" when high current heats the fuse "thermal" element to the failure point. Too high a current for too long will do it. The fuse may have been slightly off from design spec to allow it to blow early. Or, the circuit design loads are too near the fuse size. You could have a intermittent short in the circuit that caused it. Good reason the have fuses.
Glad you got it fixed. Interesting that you are traveling around trailering the C5 instead of some kind of "clown car".

Thanks dadaroo. The car is a big hit in the rv parks and even running around the mountains in the small towns. I can't imagine having a different car. I made it a truly personalized car. I started out life as a car dealer and never had a personal car. Since in Montana it stays lite until 10 I'm not sure if I'll get to check it.
