Default Drivers Mirror

I also have the same problem. The lower half of my driver side mirror darkened to the point of uselessness. Before finding this thread, I ordered a replacement glass from Amazon, for $17.00, which I just received. It's a Burco #2835, and a perfect match size-wise for the existing. No auto dim, which I can deal with, and I don't really need the heater, since I moved from D.C. to Florida last year.
The instructions indicate to remove the broken glass, which there is none, just black. But I'm going to try to remove the old glass, just to do it right, and to get contact with the heating element. (Incidentally, if you break a mirror intentionally, do you still get 7 years of bad luck?). I've built engines before from the ground up, so I don't anticipate this being a major project, and I'll keep you all posted on how it turns out. I mean, if you can live without the dimming feature which puts the replacement in the $200.00+ range, and the mirror works and looks great, a $20.00 fix is all right with me. Got to go to D.C. on business next Monday, so I might be a couple weeks before I repost my findings. Y'all have a great weekend.
