I've noticed while I'm driving my '98 that the "MPH" on the speedometer glows from low intensity to brighter (headlights off). It seems to change occasionally even when the outside lighting is bright. Anyone else seen this, and is there a fix for it? Thanks all in advance!

Interesting... I noticed my 98 C5 doing the exact same thing just a few days ago. The MPH light on the dash will vary its brightness intermittently. Head lights and fog lights are off. Anyone one have any ideas?
RMVette,
It's normal ops. The sensor is dimming the MPH based on the amount of light that is being seen inside the cockpit. A lot of light = dim, low light = bright.
Nothing to worry about. Kind of like the twilight sentinel. It's not broke so don't know if there is a "fix".
The sensor that measures cockpit light is right above the FUEL button. The next time your in your vette move your hand over this sensor and you will see the "MPH" dim and brighten as you move your hand across the sensor.
This is completely NORMAL.
It's strange that it does it without the inside light level changing. I could be sitting in the driveway and it happens. Where's the sensor located that senses light level inside the drivers compartment?

That would be interesting if this is the fact. My dealer has been looking for the same problem in my car since Sept 98, and still has no idea.
