Hello, I have a '98 C5 and I took it to get a smog check last week and it passed the actual test but failed the "visual inspected" due to a small ripped hose. I have no idea what this is for and I even took it to the Chevy dealer and had a guy from the parts dept. look at it and he couldn't tell me what it was without "getting in there" as he put it. I took a few pictures I figure someone has to know what it is and the easiest way to fix it?

That particular elbow is not sold by GM separately, so any replacement elbow will be a universal piece that hopefully has the correct size to fit the nipple on the valve cover. Also it's likely the other rubber pieces on that hose assembly are equally perished, given their age, etc, so for a temporary fix might work OK.
A new, GM replacement pcv hose assembly (this one is unique to the '97 and '98 cars only), is GM part number 12558673 and is available from a number of sources online in the $40 - $45 range. Piece of cake to change out.
Thank you everyone for the replies and information. I found an eBay seller located here in California who is selling the part for $35 so I went ahead and ordered it.

I was just about to post the same pic from my car. I now know what to buy, thanks!
