Default C5 UnderHood Light

I noticed when I got the car that when the hood was open the light was out. Purchased a new bulb and the light went on. Noticed the other day that the light was out again with the hood up.

Took a look at the bulb and it appears to be still good and the harness is plugged in tight at the light housing and by the front harness.

Going to check the harness with a voltage light and see if I'm getting juice. Both the visor mirrors light up so I think the fuse is good.

May be looking for a replacement light if the harness checks out good.

Let me know what you think. I have read on this forum that the hood light is something that constantly goes out or doesn't work.

The factory light is wimpy and mine kept not working so I put an Autozone LED strip on a switch under the hood as shown here:

Hood light, as well as the interior lights, have a timer in their circuits - they are turned off automatically after about 10 - 15 minutes (never measured it exactly). If you close the hood and open it again - or if you open a door, the lights will come back on and the timer is reset. If you can get the interior lights to come on with the door open but the hood light still won't come on, it's probably time for some electrical diagnosis, starting with checking for 12V power at the hood light.

Update:

Found that #2 10a fuse in the passenger foot well was blown. Replaced fuse and now glove box light works as well as hood light.

I did notice however that the harness connector at the front of car is touchy meaning I can wiggle it and the light will go out and come back on. May look to splice the wires together eliminating the connector.

As for now the light works if I need to wiggle the wire. May just leave it as I'm not under the hood that often besides normal checking of fluids which is typically done during the day.

Thanks again for the replies.

Try some electrical contact cleaner.
If you ever need to take the hood off you'll have to cut the wire if you eliminate the connector.
I had to put my car on my lift to get to the connector.
You could eliminate it and replace it with a universal one from Autozone
and put it under the hood so it's easily accessible.
Put some electrical tape over it and you're good.
