Odd gear problem
I've had odd transmission problems since I've gotten my C5. Car's a '97 M6. Sometimes, I just can't get into certain gears (1 is stiff, but usually doable. Might have to pop the clutch a couple times sometimes. 4th is typically the problem).
My clutch went out recently, and I went ahead and replaced everything other than the transmission. New clutch (pressure plate, flywheel, master, slave, and pilot bearing) and had the diff rebuilt. But I still have a hard time getting it in gear sometimes. I wondered if I was just too stupid to drive the car, but I've never had problems with any other stick I've driven, and friends who've driven other C5s have the same problem I'm having with my car.
When I try to change gears, I get grinding, like if I missed the slot or something. You can hear the gear "wind down" (the best way I know to describe it) and then sometimes it'll pop into place. Usually, if I let out on the clutch and try again, I'm good to go.
Is this a synchro problem? Are my gears overly chewed up? Did I get unlucky with my new clutch?
Any advice would be great. Thanks!
Sorry, had to joke on the thread title.
Sounds like you might could do with a shifter realignment. There is a pretty easy to follow procedure here: http://www.smokinvette.com/corvettef...ad.php?t=10872
Give that a try. I will also say, if you haven't changed your transmission fluid, I would absolutely do so. With your older transmission, you should use the GM Dexron fluid; some synthetics can cause issues with the paper blocker rings on that trans.

The clutch rebuild (I forgot to mention he adjusted the shifter, too) was done by one of the guys who works with the racers sometimes, and is known for being one of the best there is, but I'll give the alignment a go anyway. The tranny fluid hasn't been changed while I've had her, so that seems like a pretty easy thing to do, too.
Thanks for the advice!
