I will get a professional to do the flush in the future. It still poured out pretty dark even with the new trans fluid in the mix.
The problem with doing these home fluid changes is you only get about 1/3rd of the fluid out.. The pan and lower valve body area of the Trans only holds about 4 qts.. The other 7-8 qts is up in the Trans/converter/cooler.
Not really a good way to change all the fluid out unless you had an endless amount of fresh fluid and a way to enter it into and exit from the system, then run the trans and flush the fresh fluid thru it maintaining the level... Maybe disconnect the trans cooler lines and fill thru one and exit thru the other..
I'm not sure how dealers do the "flushes" but I'd be willing to bet, the only replace what they drain out of the pan.. Pretty much pointless..
Dealers and a lot of shops use a machine that hooks to the cooler lines. You start car and while it pumps out old, the machine pumps in new. I would never do this method. They don't do filter or drop pan. I drop pan and do the filter. Then disconnect line and start car to pump old out while I am pumping fresh into the pan. I cycle enough through until new fluid is coming out for a quart or two. Works fairly good on most cars and assures upper 90% of fluid is replaced.
