MAF..... Good or Bad

A MAF can be "bad" and not throw codes. My car had a de-screened cheap plastic aftermarket MAF in it. Since I replaced it with a clean, screened factory MAF, the idle is smoother, it's smoother in transition on and off the throttle, and the exhaust crackles and pops less.

When you start cold, the car is in closed-loop, fixed programming until it warms up. The MAF will start affecting the engine after this passes, generally after the idle drops to normal run mode. If the car starts running badly after this warm-up period, think MAF.
Also, if the car runs better after disconnecting the MAF, think MAF.
