Is there any other way to permanently hook up a battery tender wire/whip to the battery so that I don't have to keep removing the battery den cover all the time? Most tenders come with the the clamp ends but also with the stake on ends to attach to the battery posts. That connector does not lend itself to attaching to a side post battery very well. Can the tender whip be attached to a negative ground and the positive connector in the fuse box under the hood? This is not a direct connect to the battery and I don't want to hurt anything and will it charge the battery sufficiently if attached this way? Any other suggestions?
Have you considered using the cigarette lighter to plug in your tender to charge the battery? Don't need any external connections to the battery. Also safe to do since the charge current is only 1.25Amp and the fuse to the lighter is 10 amp. Never need to open the hood.
I made up my own long extension from parts available at Radio Shack pretty inexpensively. Tender is on a shelf on the wall with the long extension ready for me when I drive into the garage. Even works with the car cover on.

Change out the standard battery side post bolts to these. There are a number of different brands/sources etc. They are common in audio/stereo stores. Attach your ring terminal cable, then route your cable to any nearby convenient location where you have easy access:
Then buy a plug-in style extension cord. I used a 25' extension (there are shorter ones too) from Schumacher, but there's a number of other brands out there as well.
$10 to $15 price range:
Leave the charger on the bench, nearby shelf, or even mount to the wall next to the car, pull the pigtail attached to the battery out and plug the extension into it. When your done charging, unplug the extension and tuck the battery pigtail down out of the way where you can reach it easily the next time.
we had a few of those battery tenders at the Lexus dealer i worked for.... we had a butch of them that didnt work in a drawer (same box with a "Lexus" Name on the front). So im not a fan of them.
I would recommend one by a brand called "Schumacher" i have had a few that have always worked... even OLD ones that the housing was coming apart always worked!
