yes i looked and did not find the answer, here goes
what psi should i have while doing 75 mph in 5th gear, i use mobil 1 synthetic, and really baby the car , i never really looked at it before about the psi, and it shows 48-50 is that ok, i plan on keeping vert and need to know if i need to bring car in to be looked at, i appreciate your help
50 seems quite good if oil temp is at normal operating temp. My service manul is at the shop so next time I'm out I'll look up the spec for minimum oil pressure on the LS1.
Some info is available in the owners manual:
"Oil pressure should be 20 to 80 psi (140 to 550 kPa).
In certain situations such as long, extended idles on hot
days, it could read as low as 6 psi (40 kPa) and still be
considered normal. It may vary with engine speed,
outside temperature and oil viscosity, but readings above
the shaded area show the normal operating range"

I notice that when I start the car first thing and begin driving, my pressure is kind of high I think, starting at 40-50 but right before shifting, it creeps up to 60-80. Once the engine is warm, it seems to hang steady around 40-45 at a cruising speed.
My real question, do I need to baby this until it gets up to temperature to keep from damaging it? Will it cause harm running it to say 3000 RPM and causing the pressure to rise?

Oil pressure is derived from the oil pump spinning, so the faster the engine turns, the higher the oil pressure. When the engine is cold, the OP is higher, because the oil is thicker, so to speak, hence the higher OP. Personally, I drive somewhat slowly, until the engine begins to warm up. Yes, you're going to see 2000-2500 in the lower gears, when starting out from a stop, and yes, that will cause the OP to rise, but as long as you're now beating the crap out of it, it shouldn't be an issue.
