I have a buddy with a gm stage 3 cam that he said i can have for $300 and he will install it for me. He said it's a pretty big cam for a street car but once i get used to it it should be ok.
I was just wondering what else i would need i know valve springs, all i have on the car is a twin air intake, corsa catback, and Diablo predator
Your gonna want to research a bit on that cam before you spend your money. I believe it is intended for the road course/endurance LS7/LS3 set ups.
What are your goals? Budget? Quality/reliable cam installs need quite a bit of supporting hardware to make power and last. You can half *** it and get away with the bare minimums... ultimately hoping it works. Or do it right...knowing its gonna work.
Cheap. Fast. Reliable.... You only get 2

Spend a little more, and get a complete cam kit that's spec'd for your preferences. You need better springs, anyway, and it is a good idea to upgrade your timing chain, and oil pump at the same time. If you're not mechanically inclined, pay your buddy $300 for the installation. Believe me, that's lots cheaper than a shop would charge.
How many cams has your buddy installed in ls engines? Don't do it just because it sounds like a good deal. I agree with was posted above. Spend the money to do it right or leave it alone!
I don't mind spending the money on other parts that's why I posted here to see what else I would need, seams like the complete kit is the way to go. He did say it would be pretty aggressive but he's never used it so I figured id ask around here.
He is a mechanic for Chevy and built the ls1 himself that he put into his '66 Nova so as far as his skills I'm very confident in him. He just told me he wont get into the tuning of the car but he can do anything else that I need
