'02 A4 Trans squealing/rubbing noise???
I just heard this noise today going slowly down the street. It sounded from inside the convertible like a tire was hissing. I checked the dash and no low tire pressure alert.
I kept going and I thought it might be a dragging parking or service brake so I tried the brakes and the parking brake. No change in the noise. It makes the noise when in drive or when coasting in neutral. No noise when at a stop.
Went home and jacked it up to do a oil change and turned the rear wheels while it was up in the air. No noise from either side (wheelbearing) so I got right up under the trans and that is where the noise is coming from. When I turn the rear wheels in the forward direction it sounds like a dragging disc brake inside the transmission oil pan. But when I turn the wheels backward there is no noise.
Any ideas?
Trans shifts and drives perfect.
