Default Windshield crack

A rock from a truck spat at it at the windshield and now there's a nasty crack on it. It's at the lower right of the windshield which is nicely out of the way for driving but I know if it's not taken cared of soon then it develops into a huge crack.

Took it to a specialist to see if they could repair it and the guy says no, which is strange cause I've seen much worse repaired. Kind enough to give me a estimate of $1300. I tried to repair it myself but nothing.

So I wanna get someones opinion if this is really not repairable. I could try going through my insurance but I've only had the car insured for 2 months and only $1000 deductible. I uploaded a picture to show the damage. The finger is there to help the camera focus.

It looks to me like the cracks might have spread too far from the center for repair. The big chunk missing from the center might also be a contributing factor. You can always get a second opinion, though. When I had my windshield replaced several places told me they wouldn't be able to reuse the rubber trim before I found one that said they could reuse them with no problem, which they did.

Edit- $1300 is insane. You can purchase the HUD windshield for half that on Rock Auto, and a regular one for less than $200. My replacement cost me $195 out the door.

That kind of damage is usually covered under the Comprehensive clause in your policy. Check and see what your Comprehensive deductible is.

I've heard the regular one and HUD windshields make little difference in the display. I'd have no problem with a regular one if it's slightly dimmer. Cause honestly another rock is likely to spit out on the new windshield eventually.

BTW got any of those links for the Rockauto windshields? I can't find them. I wouldn't mind buying it and then paying someone to put it in for like $100. Best I could find is the link bellow but I believe it's with HUD. Does it make a difference if the C5 is convertible?

I'm fairly certain the Vert glass is the same as the rest. There really isn't a link directly to the windshield, but you can go to Rockauto.com, click on Chevrolet, then click on Corvette, then click on your year, then click on Body-Exterior, and you'll see Windshield Glass at the bottom of the pop-up list.

Thanks I see the windshields and WoW. This is what I see. Only the last two seem to be for HUD display but why such a huge variation in price? Also any opinions on hud glass vs non hud glass?

Careful with the replacement. I understand the seal around the window is the expensive piece if the original is not reused. Need to ensure the installer knows this so you don't get stuck with a big unknown cost (I recall seeing $600 on some older threads on this issue.)

Most insurance companies pay for the total cost of windshield replacement.

Called Geico and they go by my deductible which is $1000. So yea it's out of my pocket. So regular glass or hud glass cause that's what I'm contemplating?

The regular glass just makes the HUD display slightly lighter, but nothing that would make much of a difference. For roughly $750-800 difference in price, I could live with the slightly lighter display. I don't have HUD but will eventually and I went with the less expensive option. I refuse to pay near $1k for a windshield.

Geico paid the entire cost recently to replace the windshield on my '92 Chevy Suburban after it cracked when a bird flew into it one day on the road.
It may depend on what state you are in, whether they have windshield coverage or not, but all windshields are 100% covered in Florida as far as I know.

Thanks that's what I think I'll do. Why there's a $150, $156, and nearly $200 Windshield is beyond me. I'll probably call Rockauto before ordering it. Now to find an installer that won't screw it up.

I'm on my fourth (HUD) windshield now. (They use ground up lava rock on the roads for traction during winter, so come spring...you get the idea). Anyway, in some states my (USAA) policy was zero deductible for a "glass only" claim, but here in Idaho, my $500 deductible kicks in, so when I get damage like you have, I try one of those corner repair guys (you'd be surprised how good some of them are) and my insurance covers 100% of the repair. If it can't be fixed, I go to a professional windshield shop, insist on a HUD windshield and pony up the $500 ded.
