Ok...I have a 97 a4 and it has 24,000 miles on it with never a battery change....I got in it this morning and everything was great, no problems...then about an hour ago I get in it , turn the key and nothing...no juice...inside lights blinked a bit but thats it..nothing!....My battery right?????? Lights wont pop up etc...
Now last nite I was reading about shifting etc with the a4...I usually leave it in OD but just down the block this morning I left it in 3rd then went back up to OD when speed went over 40...this couldnt have done anything right??? Its my paranoia....not the transmission right! 24,000 miles seem about right for the battery to die??????? Some help and comfort would be nice :chevy :yesnod:

primetime,
Pull the battery out and take it to an auto parts store and have them load test it. While you're at it clean the battery cable connections and the battery posts as well if, the battery tests good and goes back into the car.
If the battery is 3 years or more old...probably about time to be thinking of a a replacement.
The transmission shifts didn't hurt anything.
Good luck.

Age, not m iles make the difference with batteries. Check the terminals and make sure they are tight. If it is the battery, get a non-leaker, like the Optima or some other glass mat/gel type! :smash: :yesnod:
My '98 T/A's battery lasted 4 years and so did my '99 SS's but if your '97 has the origional batery more than likley it's toast!

Thanks guys.....Question...How much should I expect to pay for a new battery???? Heard about an Optima but any type of brand I should go with????
Considering what's beneath your battery, I'd definitely go with either an AGM (ACDelco) or a spiral-wound (Optima or equivalent). Both types are leak and vibrationproof. The AGMs were designed to outlast every other type of battery and looks like your stock battery. The Optima may cost a bit less, as it's been around longer than the Delco AGMs, but you probably can't go wrong with either.
