Default rear shock bolt nut plate snapped off help!

So I found bad bushings on my right rear shock on my 2001 z06 and decided to change them out. Upon reinstalling the shocks and securing them with the bolts one of the bolts got a little snug then the nut plate popped off. I got the nut plate off the bolt and removed them. It looks like it was tack welded in 3 spots but 2 out of the three didn't bond and the last one finally snapped. Does anyone have a decent solution to my problem? Thanks in advance.

Can you post a picture of your broken part?? It will help us point you in the correct direction.

You have to host all photos thru a hoisting site I.e. Photobucket Its free for minimum band width.

It's a flat piece of metal that also has a tube like appearance in the center of the metal that is internally threaded and has two small holes for rivets. Sorry for the aircraft terminology. It's basically a welded nut I'm talking about.

Removal Procedure (Rear)

The first figure where in shows the upper bolts going in. The bolts go up into the plate and into a nut on the other side of the plate. The pictures on my photo bucket shows the picture of the tack welded nut that those bolts thread into.

So the nut broke off behind the shock mounting tower?

Completely gone?

What you could do (besides welding a nut back on) is drill a hole in the rear compartment above the shock tower. (This is what you need to do for coilover shocks for top adjustment) either spin a nut on the shock bolt from the hole or drop the bolt down & install nut from below.

I wouldnt mind having it rewelded the only problem is i dont think its possible to do with the limited space in there. When you say rear you mean the opposite side of the side you're looking at when you remove a shock? If so how do you go about it?

Thanks

Also i fixed the link above so you should be able to view the pictures

This is what I have done in the past. That area is accessable via a small space above the bracket. Ive had MICE build a nest in that space.

Clean the area up, clean the nut with sand paper. Use some JB Weld Two Part EPOXY and glue the nut in place. Once the epoxy cures, run a tap up thru the threads to make sure no epoxy got in the threads.

All the blind nut is for is so the factory doesnt have to get a wrench in that area.

Its worked for me in the pas on my JEEP.

LOL

You are LUCKY the entire bracket didnt break off the frame. It has happened in the past. That said, you could grind it off, have the nut welded to the bracket and weld it back on.

To weld it back in- drill holes around the center hole
Place new nut behind, weld through the holes on to the nut

To Jerry rig- follow these instructions on where to drill hole in rear deck for access behind the shock tower

Another great Idea If yiou have access to or can borrow a welder. MIG welders are pretty easy to get or borrow.
