No seriously...they work pretty well at keeping dust and bugs, and well anything else from getting in there. Very simple, just like all the other rubber seals on the car.
I acutally have an extra one I'll sell to you if you want it.
I wouldn't get it for any performance enhancement. I have a twin flow intake and the water issue was why I bought it. It works very well at keeping water off the filters.
To me its just a sales gimmick, I installed mine just to keep my open airfilter from getting wet when I wash my C5 or drive it in the rain. If it keeps the water out then it will also keep unwanted debri out. As far as a performance gain, I see nada !!!! :chevy

ditto - as a follow on, i bought my first seal at mid-america. well to say the least, the cheap double sided tape (looked like a standard office product, double sided cellophane tape) - didn't hold up to well to rain, washings, etc. lasted about 6 months. i went to my local chevy dealer and got the seal that's on the right and left side of the hood ( mounted to the fenders). works great, and best of all, it matches the rh/lh seals, looks factory, and uses a quality automotive trim mounting tape. as far as keeping dirt/dust out, i think there is a slight low pressure under the hood caused by airflow across the hood as you're driving. this would tend to keep dirt/dust out. you would get more dirt/dust from the bottom side of the chassis' engine/suspension openings.
My hood seal actually creates a "bubble of air" which allows me to cross lakes and other bodies of water. Try it, it is amazing but true ! Now if i could figure out how to refuel while moving, I could be the first to DRIVE accross the Atlantic Ocean !
I went down to the hardware store and purchased the rubber foam "gasket" for$2.50.Enough to go around 2 hoods. Its about 1/2" thick with adhesive on 1 side.Works great! Guarenteed to increase your hose power to what ever rating you lik.IE 200 horses +. :chevy :chevy :flag :chevy :chevy
