Steering Column Lock Problems
I just checked with my favorite Chevy dealer Vette tech. Any 6 speed C5 that has had the Column Lock Recall done can be fixed as follows:
Disconnect the CL as described in the CLB instructions with the motor running and MAKE SURE the CL UNLOCKED. The result is a disabled CL. You will get a DIC message "Service Steering Column" each time you start but just hit reset and go on your way. No adverse effects occur. My 99 is fixed!!
