I should have known that after replacing my water pump (02 Z06) this past weekend and then finally resolving the issue with it still overheating that it wouldn't be the end of it... So now I get a slight smell of coolant when I stop at a light, etc. I noticed late last night when I got home and parked that there was a puddle of coolant under the car about 10 minutes after it stopped running. I didn't have time to get it up on jack stands but coolant was dripping from rear of engine, appeared to be coming off the back of the oil pan. Front of engine and all hose connections and areas around water pump and thermostat were dry.
I'm going to try and make it home in time tonight to get it up on stands but can anyone tell me what to focus on back there or where they think the problem is coming from? I'm guessing there are some heater hose connections back there and one sprung a leak when it overheated? I can't see anything from the topside.
Thanks
You are on the right track. I can't think of anything else back there except heater hoses. It is probably one of those. I am assuming that you don't have a leak inside the cabin so at least that is good news. Should be an easy fix. Do you have a cooling system pressure tester? That would be very helpful in this case.
ok, so I may have jumped the gun. Looks like it's water, not coolant that was in a puddle dripping out from between the firewall and engine. I got underneath and can see where the water is coming from. I guess I should know what this is but don't. Fluid is coming straight out the hole in the bottom. Comes out of firewall just right of center on the passenger side. What the heck is this thing? I'm guessing an AC condensation drain?

Correct.
Like many cars/trucks, this drain is for the condensation that collects inside the HVAC housing inside the car caused by operating the AC, and has nothing to do with the "udders" being mentioned. BTW, be very glad is draining because if it doesn't, or can't (blockage), water will back up inside the HVAC housing and overflow inside the car. You do NOT want that.
"Udders" drain water from the plenum area at the base of the windshield, outside the car.
