I am new to this forum and I got a 2002 c5 a few months ago. Just recently my drivers side ac blows hot and does not change. The passenger side works fine. Took it to a shop and they pulled a code that said that there was a error on communication from the headunit. They told me that they would not know if it was the control or the acuator or blend door. It would be changing one part at a time to eliminate the problem. Can anyone tell me if they could help me out on this, before I dump money on parts I do not need. I know my display needs fixed and when I turn the drivers side **** the digital read changes the numbers.
I am hoping that they checked that when it was in the shop. The system was running fine a month ago before this happened. I will look at the work order and see what code was pulled.

had exactly the same problem with mine and it was low on freon

I would be really nice to know what the code was. A communication DTC means that the module the code was pulled from lost communication with another module. So if there was a code in the HVAC module for loss of communication that would mean the HVAC module lost communication with another module. The controls are integrated into the HVAC control module and the commands to the actuators come directly from the module. So all the module needs is power and ground and driver input to operate the actuators. The A/C clutch is a little different as the PCM actually activates the compressor clutch although the request comes from the HVAC module. The most likely cause of your issue is low Freon. But, it could be an actuator. If you can communicate with the HVAC module (if they pulled a code from it they can communicate with it) and operate the actuators while observing the live scan data this should be an easy diagnosis for a qualified shop. There are tests that can be done to know actuator or module. You just have to have the equipment knowledge/experience to run them. Was this a Corvette shop or at least a GM specialty shop? It sounds like they may not be experienced or equipped to deal with this in a cost effective manner. If you own a Corvette one of the first orders of business is to find someone that is capable and trust worthy to fix it or learn to do a lot yourself.
It is a shop that deals with gm products but now I'm thinking I should have taken it to the dealer. I did not get a chance to check on the car today but I will check the codes tomorrow and let you know.
Ok got the codes
The hvac code is U1160
The other was BO441
Reset the hvac by pulling fuse 27 still running hot. The thing I noticed was when I turn the drivers side **** it cools the passenger side down but does nothing to the drivers side

That's because your left actuator is not working properly. See post #10. Drivers side **** controls both sides. Read your owners manual.

Looks like you need an actuator. Most likely a broken gear. Whoever replaces it will need to be able to recalibrate the actuators or you could wind up with 3 codes instead of one.

So I pulled the hvac control out last nite so I could get the display fixed on it before working on anything else. Did some research on the site but could not find the answer I was looking for. Is it possible to access the drivers side acuator without taking the dash off?
Looks like the dash has to come off to get to the acuator. I was hoping that I could access it without taking the dash pad off
That link was for the right side/passenger side. The left side/driver side can be accessed without taking of the dashpad. Just the knee bolster and bose module.
