Default Anyone replace their Windshield?

Was thinking of doing it myself but I see nobody else has or at least hasn't written any guides or info about it. Small chip on my windshield has developed into a crack halfway across. And yes I have a hud and probably want to put a regular windshield on it.

I'm just entertaining the idea of doing it myself. I doubt putting the new windshield is a problem, but getting the old one out without damaging the dreaded overpriced weatherstrip is a challenge.

So has anyone ever done it? Want to share your experience? I'm just thinking about it, so it's not set in stone.

In for the HUD vs. non- HUD windshield comments.

If it were my car, I'd avoid the risk of damage to either the car and/or the new windshield, and have a professional do it.

Just my $0.02 worth.

Keep in mind, the windshield is part of the air bag retention system, so it needs to be installed properly.

I had a professional do it for my '99 FRC.

They damaged the weatherstrip, the plastic rain channel trim above the door, and put a scratch on the roof parallel to the top of the window.

If getting someone to do it, try to check out how much experience they have with a C5.

Good luck.

I guess that's that then. Get a professional.

I'm always interested in hearing everyone's opinion on this. I hear things like pre-hud owners having no problems with sticking with their old windshields to people claiming it's a blurred mess.

definitely look for references! I've seen my windshield done twice and the 3rd time I was not present. The two I've watched had different techniques! This is definitely something I would rather pay someone who does this for a living and has experience with corvettes.

Does your car insurance pay for a new windshield? It does in many states. Then you have someone do it right and it doesn't cost you anything.

I've done it several times......but then, I own an auto glass replacement business! It is not something I suggest a weekend warrior do. It takes me about 45 minutes to an hour to do and I always have assistance removing and replacing it due to its size (and the fact that these are nice cars). I'm 6'3" and 260, too, so it's not like I couldn't do it alone, it's that I wouldn't do it alone.
