I have a 99 frc. Here is the issue. I purchased the vehicle with 2nd gear going out, so i would just shift from 1st to 3rd. Last october the trans went out so i replaced it with a used trans. A month later 2nd gear starts grinding again. The shop that did the labor, which is a reputable shop in san antonio believe that there is no way 2 trannies can have the exact same issue. So i replaced the fluid and then was advised to change the shifter. So i bought a c6z shifter and aligned it and the grinding eent away but went to third gear. So how does a problem change gears???? I aligned it better but the grinding continued. If i shift slowly then it is fine but if i shift quickly then it grinds bad. The trans finalky went out again. I know it needs another trans, but how can it be the same problem 2 trannies in a row and the problem moves when i did a replacement part. Any help would be great
Several things can make a transmission grind gears between shifts.
They are:
- Clutch is not releasing fully.
- Clutch Slave Cylinder has air in it and not fully releasing the clutch.
- Pilot Bearing is damaged and dragging the input shaft
- Weak or damaged synchros or damaged synchro teeth.
- Wrong or very dirty / worn out transmission ATF fluid.
What ATF did you use and when they put in the new transmission, did they change the slave cyl, throw out bearing and pilot bearing???????
When we replaced the trans we used factory fluid. Then last april or may i put amsoil in it. When i purchased the vehicle it has just had an ls7 clutch. Now you are correct, the pilot and throw out were never checked. I just find it ironic that 2 transmissions have the exact same issue but the weird thing is that ehen i changed a part the grinding switched to a different gear
