and I can't get the MAF sensor plug out! The grey key is out and I squeezed the sides and the top/bottom of the plug and it still won't come out. Should it be so difficult or am I missing something??
I too unclipped the wrong one first as well. Take a small screw driver and on the difficult side to get at and see, you will find another clip (black). Slide the screw driver under this and it almost magically pops up enough that you will see the movement of the plug and it is free.....
Well, I was hoping to install my Donaldson Blackwing this weekend at a local club tech day, but I open the box and read through the instructions and it reads: "SLP recommends allowing the vehicle to cool (not running) for five hours before beginning the installation."
It'll take me an hour to get to our tech day meeting place and the whole tech day will most likely end within 4 hours. Poopie!
Second problem: While the Blackwing comes with instructions, it is not at all useful to a corvette owner newbie who has no idea what a MAF and a IAF sensor looks like. And isn't the "worm gear clamp" just the same as a hose clamp but with a fancier name? I was hoping to not have to rely on my tech day buddies to do this work for me as I really want to learn this myself. I really didn't want to show up looking like a complete idiot.
Third problem: Thinking I would be really smart, naturally I logged right on to corvette forum, went right to Tech Tips under C5 Related and clicked on Donaldson Blackwing Installation on 2001 (2002 installation is supposed to be the same), but most of the pictures are missing. It is an old post. Grrr...Maybe I'll just stick to installing my rocker rails and frame savers (hopefully) until I learn more what parts are what?
Re: HELP!!! Blackwing install right now.. (C8R2NO1)
Not sure about the 5 hour cool down, but the installation is fairly simple. It took all of an hour with 15 minutes of that time trying to take off the MAF sensor plug!
I've got a good installation source, but the URL is at home. I'll post it when I get back.
It's a lot easier than it seems. Just dive into it and you'll be fine!
SWEET! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. Those instructions were just what I needed. The Blackwing is installed and it took less than an hour. In a little while, I'll take it for a spin to see how it works.
