Default Z06 consistently running lean

Fellas,

Not sure what I can do about this, but since I swapped out the stock air intake I've consistently been popping codes p0171 and p0174. The condition arises under various driving conditions I can't put a solid finger on, but it's happening to much for me to be happy.

Since I don't have access to LS1edit, what else would do the trick to richen things up? I got the idea that bigger injectors might do the trick, but how do I know what size and if that will cure the condition under all rpm loads? Thanks in advance
Dave

I had the exact same codes after getting the Halltech sidewinder combined with other intake and bolt on's seen in my sig. Oh, including bigger injectors. What i ended up doing was getting the AFR1 (air/fuel calibrator) from Halltech. After adjusting the two ***** the codes went away.

Hope this helps,

Frank

Maybe a MAFT (Mass air flow translator)? I haven't heard much about them lately, since LS1Edit came out.

Having the car run lean after the air filter doesn't surprise me. The cars seem to run a little on the rich side from the factory (for safety), and an easy way to make a bit more power is to lean them out. So the air filter can make a HP gain by making the car run leaner, not necessarily by flowing better. So most of the gain would be equaled by custom tuning, or in other words if you tune the car back to the stock AFR, then most of the gain will dissapear.

FWIW, I heard that headers make engines run leaner than they otherwise would. Maybe get LS1Edit tuning done after your header install? APE in Detroit does it (they also installed Cruzmisl's headers and tuned his car). ARE does it too.

APE is http://www.ap-engineering.com/

If you are going to do any more mods, then get them done before the tuning so you don't have to tune more than once. If not, might be worth the $500 anyway, to get the most out of the headers. I'm planning to put in a cam after the headers, and then get dyno tuned. I'm not too worried about my AFR until then, since my last dynos I was a bit under 12:1 at WOT.
