Default Need advice on H/C package

I'm looking for a h/c package for my y2k vert. GM has the following LS6 Package: The cyclider head starts with the production LS6 cylinder head and is then CNC ported for maximum flow. It's the cylinder head of choice for Corvette showroom stock road racing. With this cylinder head and the ASA camshaft, Gen 3 engines can approach 500 horsepower. The ASA camshaft is designed for racing and has .525 lift on 110 degrees center line.
Would these two together be a good h/c package, and would my car still be streetable?

If you’re referring to #88958622, these heads have been milled 0.055" to bring the combustion chambers back down to approximately 60cc. That would push the compression ratio over 11:1 and maybe as high as 11.5:1 (I’m not sure). I would imagine that you would need programming for sure and it might be too much with a supercharger. You’ll need to check pushrod length and there might be a few headaches installing the intake. If these heads had not been milled at all or not over 0.030”, I’d be very tempted to get them. The flow numbers seem very good.

The cam has less lift then the stock 2002 LS6 cam, but a fairly radical duration and lobe separation, which is probably too much for the street. I would either get a stock 2002 LS6 cam (because at $200 it’s cheap) or go for an aftermarket cam to get strong streetable performance.

That may be a good road racing setup, but not for the street. A cam with 110 LSA won't idle well, or pass smog, and I'd guess will require PCM tuning just to get it to idle. You can do better IMHO. Aftermarket cams with 218 to 224 duration, 114 LSA, and .561" lift or better will get you great performance and streetability. Talk to some tuners, see if they agree.

YEs i agree,100%. Stick with the big name tuners on this site, Cartek, MTI, ARE, MMS, Speeddemon Motorsports, House of Speed, etc., LG Motorsports. ANyone of these tuner can give you all the power you could imagine with heads, cam, headers and other needed bolt ons and you will be much happier than the option you talk about.

IMHO... http://www.katech-inc.com :D You can order this set up (Stage II) through Nate at Extreme Motorsports... There will be many opinions here but I took a stand and made my decision and will complete it at the end of the season... You want to go with a set that has been a proven setup and time tested. Good luck and do your homework :yesnod:

I agree, I've got the Katech/Xtreme package, and with my other mods I'm close to 500hp (with tuning left to go) in a very streetable, reliable car. I'd think you'd be better off going with a proven package like this (whether Katech's or another of the forum vendor's) rather than going with the unknown. The setup you described sounds like it could cause problems for day-day driving.

Good luck ,
Collin

that cam isnt very streetable...110 LSA is BAD idle

I agree with all here.....try a forum vendor as they are all tried and tested by us :) ..... MTI stage II with hammer cam here ... and it puts down 440 rwhp

hope that helps

Thanks for all of your input. I've decided to take your advice and go with one of the Forum Venders, still undecided which package to get. :yesnod:

When I first posted I did not put in a pitch for a particular tuner, but FWIW, Morgan Motorsports has my vote (and my money) I am really happy with the package they put together for me. Very streetable, better than stock gas mileage, passes smog, and great power. He also stands behind his work, as others will attest. I have had no problems.
