Default Optima battery questions

I bought a new Optima today. First off I want to make sure I got the right one. Its a red top, part number 75/ 35-925. Second, I don't need to use the base adaptor, do I? And finally do I need to put the foam protector back around it, like the stock Delco had? Thanks for any help.

I did not need a base adapter for my yellow top. It mounted fine with the stock mount. I also did not put the foam around it.

The "right one" is based on your needs. Either deep cycle (survives more discharges) or higher cranking amps (more likely to start your car in the dead of winter).
I always get confused which one is which but I think the yellow is the higher cranking amp one...

i'm quite amazed at the number of yellow top optimas that are purchased for automotive use as they are a deep cycle battery for constant discharge/recharge applications. the red top is for automotive use and the blue top is for marine use when you have a combo of engine starting and discharge/recharge. this is optimas reccommendation when i emailed them with questions. i wanted a specific color for looks and they talked me out of it. just my .02 and they obviously work for people, but may fail in certian extreme conditions. :)

Thanks for the information on the difference between the two Optima batteries. I thought that the red top was what I wanted, but didn't know for sure.
