I'm picking up my baby at the NCM on 8/14 in the afternoon. I am pretty sure it's a little more than 500 miles from Bowling Green to Statesboro, GA. I mention 500 since that's a common break-in period I have heard of.
So, is there a break-in mileage mark? How hard (on the car) should I be during the break-in? How steady in speed should I be?
Someone at work said that heating everything up by going a little faster and staying at a higher speed wouldn't be bad. It may even help. But, he also said that didn't mean fast starts from a dead stop. Just higher speeds which should be okay as long as you didn't stay at any of the natural harmonics of anything for too long.
I am already going to have to deal with learning to drive it. Oh, I have a 5 speed right now, but a Vette is a little different than a RX-7. I plan to put about 25K miles a year on it, so I want it to last a long time. I don't want to do something up front out of ignorance or excitement that will come back to bite me in the end (you can read 2 things into this!)!!!!!
When I bought my 99 coupe, I did't worry about any special break in period. Within about 5 mile from the dealer, It saw 85 mph. I drove it from day one, as I planned on driving it. I now have 13,000 miles on my car. It uses no oil, and have had no problems.
