I'm looking at a used MGW shifter.. It does not have the lower box.. Can I use my oem box and is there a difference in the way it shifts if i do stay with oem?
Lower box is not required. My car was a low mileage car (~30k) when I installed my MGW shifter - based on the low mileage, I did not think the lower box would have much wear and tear and probably did not need to be replaced. I was right. The MGW shifts perfectly.
Would I notice a difference with a new MGW lower box? Maybe - not sure. But I am very happy with it as is.
Thanks 4X... I have a fairly new C6 shifter box in mine already... Just wanted some feedback from others that have been there and done that.. Thanks again!
I'm in the same boat, when I got my shifter all that was available was the OEM billit box and that was fine. However the new box appears to look like a smother shift do to the bushings is it worth it ? ? ? ?

I put the MGW shifter in my Z06 and got a new OEM lower box. Car seemed fine but on a long trip (Power Tour) it would occasionally jump out of 6th on decel.
While traveling with no tools or place to work, went to a well known shop near Tampa and they readjusted things (they said "no charge" so I bought them lunch). Seemed to fix the problem but a few hundred miles later on the way home it reoccurred.
Read about the newly available lower box so decided to try it. MGW offered their latest shifter with their lower box and gave a credit for my previous generation shifter. Great customer service.
Installed the new shifter and box and everything shifted better than ever. A no-thought 2 finger shift in daily driving. So I recommend going that way.
My jumping-out-of-gear troubles were actually caused by my doing the anti-Venom mod. Undid that mod and now 6000 later no problems at all and shifts are great.

Thanks Neal,
I did call Julie at MGW and found out that the new billet box will not work with shifters purchased prior to 2012, you have to buy the new shifter but they will give you a $100.00 credit for your old one which brings it to $267 and change

I was aware, via previous MGW advertising announcements in the past, that they were offering this credit program for users/customers with the previous version of their shifter. Although I did not check, I assumed that some sort of time limit may have been made in this regard, and since it's been several years since they introduced their latest version shifter/box combination, that I would probably be SOL if I wanted to do this. It's good to hear that is not the case.
