Default Best Shocks for the Money

Hey all,
Well as I was jacking up the rear end of my C5 today to put on the rear set of crossdrilleds, and all of a sudden I see what appears to be hydraulic fluid pour out the passenger rear shock. Interesting how it was fine until it go jacked up.
Anyways.....

So now I am going to be doing shocks all the way around.
I am looking for the best shock for the money or best suspension setup for the money.
I have heard 04 C5Z shocks, I have heard Koni FSD shocks, and so on....
This isnt a money is no object type question, so please dont come back with answers like $10,000 coil over setup or whatever.
I want to change the handling some. Currently it is stock with lowering bolts... any thing else you can suggest on top of shock would be nice to know too
and again think budget friendly

The C6Z06 shocks are a good value for the money. I would cut the bump stops in 1/2 since you are lowered. Once you add rear lowering bolts you don't have much suspension travel left so any little bit extra helps.

I had brand new C6 Z06 shocks and didn't like them. Specifically the valving in the rear. So I went and got the DRM Bilsteins, best shock for the money.

another vote for c6z shocks. great for daily driving, long road trips, look on the c6 section for best price even if they are used. i bought my couple months ago in the c6 section for $120 shipped for all 4. big improvement over the stock ones

You asked for "the best shock for the money". IMO that's the DRMs, you can't beat them for $112 per shock with custom valving. Again, the C6Z front shocks felt decent, but the rears felt way off (not enough rebound valving for me). Koni's are a great option but your getting away from the "for the money" part of it. You said in the OP that this is not a money is no question deal. Hence why all your answers were DRMs or C6Zs.

95Z,
You are right. I looked up the Konis and yeah they are proud of those shocks. I remember a number of years ago Koni's were always good and cheap... They were stiff too
Guess times have changed.
Looks like i might be going the way of the DRM
Thanks

I was looking into the DRM's and tried to email them and call them and got no replies so I was wondering if they are still in business. How much are they now, does he still just do them as a group buy?

I'd try again, he was very quick and helpful when responding to me on email. The shocks were $450. If your lucky he still has some unclaimed sets from the V7 group buy.

C6 Z51 shocks are what I went with. They should be a tad cushier than the Z06 version.

Now for little money - get a set of C6-Z51 take offs - I bought a set of 4 with under 10K miles for $70 delivered for the set.

Can not beat the price for some nice better than stock shocks. I have tried several others including Billstein and C5Z06. The others were all too harsh and shook the car going over even small cracks in the road.

While not for sale - I also have a second set stored incase one of these fails. For those prices I can afford to stock a backup set.

You got one hulluva deal! Add the C6 Z-51 sway bars and you'll be amazed at the difference in ride AND handling.

Default Sway Bars for cornering

- I happen to have C5-Z06 bars which are about the same size as the C6-Z51 bars.

I have always promoted the idea that sway bars have a much larger impact on cornering and that feeling of riding on rails around the corners. It is just good old mechanical engineering statics and dynamics.

I believe the magnetic ride control option is the top end of shocks but I do not have the need for them.
