Codes again, 2 times this week. I had this problem a few months ago, and I replaced the IAT sensor (only about $10 or $15) and the connector and the problem went away for a while.
Car seems to work fine, but throwing these codes again??
Is autotap saying your sensor is at -38 degrees F? Take the jumper harness and short it together (stick a wire in both sides of the harness) and hook up autotap and read the temperature and post if its the same or if it says 284 degrees F.
This is what the Gm service manual says to do.
If that doesn't work connect the harness to a good ground and read the temperature again.
Why does GM tell you to do this, to tell if the sesor is good or bad? I can't believe its bad as its new, but luckily its a $10-$15 at a autozone/pepboys/whatever car parts palce.
I noticed today that it does it a lot more at the track, sitting, and then running throwing the code every few minutes, but a 20 plus minute ride home, nothing at all?
Anyone else have some more information for us? Should I just go by another one, maybe Delco instead of wells or what the autopart places have?

HEre is an easy test...
Go to Radio Shack and buy a 4.7k ohm resistor... $.89
Plug it into the socket where the IAT sensor goes. Then run an Autotap. IT should read exactly 57 degrees..That will tell you the IAT circuitry is good.
Then after that. Leave the resistor in and forget about it. The Motor will run with a little more timing advance cause it thinks it's cold outside.. :D
I had the same problem. The tech at the dealership traced it back to a broken wire leading to the sensor. He replaced the wire (making it a little longer - he said it was pulled a little tight) and I haven't had a problem since.
I replaced the connector which came with the wire. I'll try to trace it a little further back, but haven't seen anything so far. Maybe I'll just get another sensor, or the radio shack. UGh!
The tests are done to see if it is the sensor, the wiring or the PCM. I pulled the sensor out of my 98 (which according to Atap did work) and put it in my 99 and it didn't work. Tells me it's not the sensor. Since grounding it didn't show the 284 degrees it's suppose to, for me at least the resistor would probably not show 50 something degrees.
I had the same problem with my IAT. I had replaced the sensor, but the problem came back. The dealership ran a new wiring harness to the PCM and cleared it up.
