While driving the Vette today I got the dreaded Check Engine light. When I got home I checked the codes and the only current codes I have are C1221 and C1222 (LF and RF Wheel Speed Sensor). There were several U codes and a few P codes. I reset all the codes and the light is off, but am wondering if the P or past codes will show up if the light comes on again?
By the way- If the RF and LF wheel speed sensors are bad, how do I fix them?
Re: Can a Past code cause the "Check Engine" light? (QuickSilver97)
I don't think any past codes will turn the SES light on, I think just the current ones will. Before replacing the tire sensors I would try doing the tire sensor retraining procedure first.
Re: Can a Past code cause the "Check Engine" light? (QuickSilver97)
I had the dreaded "Check Engine" liight last week and went to the dealer. The Service Manager put the techII tool on the car and it said something about a high voltage coil problem. He pulled the driver side engine cover and reseated the some of the connetors and cleared the problem. He was not sure that was the problem but I have not seen the light again. Just took a 450 mile weekend trip and not error codes.
I don't think the Check Engine warning has anything to do with the wheel sensors. Before you go to the expense replacing the wheel sensors I would try the reset procedure. I may be outlined in the Tech Tips section.
