Noticed this morning at about 5 degree outside that my car likes to just hover and stay around the 117 mark on coolant temp. I pulled over. Slow increased RPMS and I had gotten it to 226 where it stops rising. Now I sit here and watch it fall back down. Any idea besides its blizzard cold out side.
Sounds like your system is fine. Note the fans come on at 226.
Factory temp settings are low speed on at 226 degrees and off at 219 degrees. High speed on at 235 degrees and revert to low speed at 226 degrees. As stated both fans run at low speed and high speed and fans are commanded off by the PCM when the vehicle speed exceeds 35mph.
You can force low speed operation at 185 degrees by turning on the AC. High speed operation with AC on is still 235 degrees.
If you're driving and the temps don't get much over 100*F then I'd guess that your thermostat is stuck open or missing. The coolant temperature with a stock thermostat should get up around 190*F even on a cold day.
