There are things to be careful when removing the transmission. i.e. step 12. Some are taking shortcut, but it should come out with the torque tube. Look at step 31 for you specific question. You disconnect upper A arm and shock and you pull on the rotor.
There are many DIY. I have one on my websie (I copied the shop manual steps):

I removed and reinstalled the tranny 4-5 times on jackstands. 10-12 hours.

Thanks guys I did the pry bar and little pressure they came out. I am just not familiar with these vettes and learning a lot. I was just thinking what if I am supposed to take the side diff covers off or something. Better safe to ask than be sorry and force something. Thanks for the write up and this might sound dumb but what did you mean exactly the last set of directions with the warning at the bottom of the page?

The installation procedures is basically the reverse with this extra step.
IMPORTANT: the following step MUST be performed in order to provide proper alignment of the propeller shaft hub, the propeller input shaft and the propeller input shaft front bearing
This is to torque the bolt in the following picture. You reinstall everything, start the car wait for operating temperature and torque at the bolt to 96 lb ft.
