I am working on a 2002 LS1 with 150k miles. I have been chasing an oil leak for months now. I thought it was a rear main but purchased one of those video scopes and followed the oil up the side of the block to the CPS and oil sender. The oil drips off both rear corners of the oil pan from the 2 back bolts. I did the LS6 valley mod to try to stop sucking oil into the intake. I have changed the oil pressure sender. No help. Then I changed the oring on the cam sensor and I think the parts place gave me the wrong one. The original one was purplish and took some pressure to pull out. The new one is black and the sensor just popped in no real force needed. My leak is worse now than before. I have only ran 1 tank of gas thru it since the valley mod and CPS oring. I took the intake back off today and took some photos around the CPS all of that oil is from since it was put back together. I had the area all cleaned up. Do you think I should just buy a new CPS? Should I loosen the valley cover ans shift it around incase it didn't seal good then retorted it down? Any thoughts?

if you have the original o-ring you can go to a hardware store and match it up or if not take the one you currently have and get a size slightly bigger... it doesn't look like it's leaking very bad judging by the pic you posted
Ok pulled out the CPS tonight ant it was like pulling a old well pump. It was full of oil all the way to the top. I broke out my trusty scope and took a look down in the block and there is oil all over the place above where the o ring seats. I believe a combo of new sensor and o ring will cure this. I'll go down in the hole with long q tips and acetone and clean it out and lube the oring when it goes back in.
Great so now...not only do I get to look forward to the OPS going out, the CPS can take a crap too....and either or both can leak oil down the back of the engine...sheesh! I know I'll do the relocate of the OPS when and if either or both happens...
I'm going to stick with a new CPS and oring. If it keeps up I may just start looking into building a nice new engine. I think a 427 would be fun. It just takes some overtime right
