Default Performance "increase" from changing out stock runflats?

Just hit 10K on my stock runflats. Since I have never done any racing, burnouts or been to the track, they are "new". Still have the little nubs on the outside. Hell, even the sequence number is still visible on all the tires. The way I am going, I will NEVER have to change tires.

My question is, would it be a good idea to change to something like the 555 Nitto's? I know they are a pretty good bargain but I am wondering if the car would ride nicer and give me a little more performance. Can I sell my used runflats? Like I said, the tread depth on them is very near new.

Just curious as to what you think about this idea. :)

Patrick

The Nittos will give you a quieter somewhat softer ride. Their ultimate grip will be higher than the runflats. There is definitely a market on the forum for used -nearly new- runflats like yours. If they are as good as you say they are, should bring $6-800 for the set. Sounds like you do not drive the car very agressively, so ultimate tire performance is really not an issue, Why bother to swap out the tires unless the noise bothers you ??

What would be your goal in switching the stock runflats? Most people seem to switch to Firestone runflats for a softer and quieter ride, or to a non-runflat for a little cheaper and better-performing tire. But as mentioned above, you don't seem too aggressive so I don't understand what benefit you are trying to achieve. Do the tires not have enough grip for you? Do you not like their "rain driving" qualities? The Goodyears are noiser but that's not a performance issue.

My gut reaction is to recommend that you save your money and just keep what you have. I know it's tempting to see what is better out there but you might expect too much and be disappointed. Also, would you want to stay with runflats or get non-runflats...that makes a big difference. I get tempted to switch sometimes and then I remember the two times that I had flats and that ends any conjecture on getting non-runflats. :yesnod:

I changed out the runflats to Michelin pilot sports.. Never looked back!
A very large improvement in all areas of handling, ride and traction..
Many threads on this topic...

I am with C5 Missle......I did that on my 99 FRC, and it was a HUGE improvement....ride, noise and stickiness......

I would say shop around for Michelins or the Nittos, but there isnt an identical size nitto for the rears (i am almost positive)

do it!!!!!!!!

thanks

Thanks guys, we will see what happens.

Main reason is the noise of the runflats. They are quite noisy. Looks like I just need to "learn" how to drive the Vette and shred these runflats so I can have an excuse to buy something different :)

After I changed I guarantee you if I ever got a new C5 I would have the run flats off in a week, sell them for what i could get and put another pair of Bridgestone S03 s on. The car is just too good to be hobbled by the run flats.
