Exhaust donuts

I just purchased exhaust donuts for the connection between the converter tubes to the X member. They have a steel sleeve sticking out of one end. Does anyone know which end of the car the steel sleeve should go? When I took old ones off I didn't pay attention how they came off

Steel sleeve goes in exhaust manifold .

Careful of the nuts on the studs, they will likely be hard to impossible to remove without breaking the studs.

thanks everyone, I got the nuts off without a problem, I used liquid wrench first about a day ahead of time.
came off easy
