If it is what I think it is, it is a hydraulic accumulator that stores a quantity of oil while the engine is running and stores it under pressure. When you go to start, the stored oil is released prior to start-up. With the synthetics we are running, I don't think it is necessary unless you don't start much and store the car for extended periods of time.

allways start your car with no oil pressure. :eek:
