Hey guys, I have the Brian Tooley stage III NA cam - 231/242 .617"/.592" 112+2 and I'm looking to replace springs soon. I have their platinum double spring kit that came with the cam in there now and I want to go with a single beehive next.
What is the best single beehive setup I can use with the stock seal/seat/retainer combo with that amount of lift?

Call Brian and speak with him about what you want to do. He'll steer you right. Btw, PSI is an actual spring manufacturer, not a "reseller". They're one of the best there is and their 1511 is very popular.

pac makes good beehives... I run the 1518's in my car but I'm not sure if they are making those anymore, last time I looked I couldn't find them... I am probably going to swap them out to tooley's springs in the near future for a little more valve control when in boost
ok so the options I'm looking at are the PAC 1518 - 1519, the new 1219X or even the newer version of the Comp 26-918. anyone have experience with these with a similar cam? how will they hold up?

They won't. Get some Farrea duals and save your motor.

I really like those springs as well and have installed several sets myself. However, I always found that my heads set up less than 1.800" on the seat. He may also need to shim if he needs a higher seat value than 130. Not sure with his lift if these springs will have enough travel for his setup.
I have the BTR duals in there now and the inner spring is pulling the valve seal off the guide. Twice now. Talked to some guy at btr with very little help other than telling me they dont recommend beehives. But I talked to PAC on the phone and he said the 1219x would be perfect with stock rockers, seals/ seats, and retainers
plain and simple the lift will be sketchy with a beehive and i am running pac 1518's. I didn't buy them to run a .617 cam though. You are going to have to measure and shim install height to make sure everything fits. Still end up with less wiggle room than duals. The 1219x is capable of running that cam for sure. With 1.8 install and 1.1 bind you can get .617 with .083 to spare. So you only have 2 hundreths to play with, which is pretty tight to not measure imo. It isn't that it cant work just fine. It is that its very rare people will do, and are capable of, all the work required to get a good life out of them. So I think vendors shy away from it as shimming is much more difficult then just spending the same money on duals and throwing them in.
I bought 1518's and not 1219x's cause i didn't want all the extra pressure. One of the big benifits to beehives is lost with the 1219x as its simmilar pressure to the duals. Though right, running a stock valve seal will be nice.
so no info on that picture?? you just post a picture and say its from 1219's??
I was trying to find the cam duration which I must have discarded when I had my latest motor built. As I remember the duration was in the high 23X range and the I know the lift was .595. The motor was a 346 all forged Lingenfelter with AFR heads, Jessel rockers, titanium keepers, etc. This was the second motor that I had that a broken beehive spring destroyed. Right now my LS2 408 stroker is getting some Farrea dual springs because the outer #7 exhaust spring broke.
Having duals saved that engine from a catastrophic loss. The exhaust spring that broke was a PAC dual as provided on the new AFR 230 heads. You can get duals with virtually the same seat load, compression rate, and lift capacity as duals. Any valve spring can break, having duals gives you a little insurance that you can catch the problem before it destroys the motor. You seem to be pretty sold on beehives and I was too. But, that was two motors ago.
what was the ratio on the jessel rockers? Thats one thing the guy at PAC made sure of that I was running factory rockers. the cam may be .595 @ .050 but with a 1.8 rocker there is much more pressure on the spring.

They were Jessel Sportsmans with a 1.7 ratio. I don't mean to sound like I'm slamming PAC springs. I think they're some of the best out there.
