Default Blower motor making funny noise

Hey guys I am starting to think about getting my car ready for spring. When I put it away last fall the blower motor started making a funny noise. Almost like it was scraping on something but it only does it one the 2 fastest speeds.

Any clue why it's doing that? Or even where I should look for the blower motor? Car is not at my house so I can't look might now.

Anyone ever have this issue before?

Thanks

It's kinda funny I just put a NEW fan in my 1969 Chevelle and the fan looks exactly like the one in the C5....whoever designed that fan must have been brilliant. Surprised they haven't found a way to improve it for 46 years.

We're talking moving air from one place to another here, not rocket science.

I replaced mine in a GM truck and they look identical and just for kicks I dissasembled mine and lubed the brng. area and put it back together and hooked it up to a battery and it ran fine. U can get a replacement at any parts store, fairly cheap.

True, but when I first glanced at this thread, My first thought was... isn't a blower supposed to make a funny noise, my Stihl blower makes a LOT.
So, your obviously NOT talking to a rocket scientist

"Squirrel cage" blower wheel design has been around for a very very long time, and not just in cars/trucks. Homes and offices use the same design as well. The blowers designed for use in cars especially, are supposed to be quiet, and when they make discernible/abnormal (or what some people call "funny") sounds, it's a sign..........

So, were not talking leaf blower... and what they are calling "funny" isn't funny at all... Now if he had said "squirrel cage" I would have thought, you have a very serious problem if you need a "squirrel cage" in your car. But, it's sorta ironic...he may very well indeed need a "squirrel cage" or least need to clean it's cage.

On another non related note.. I like your new avatar! Can't wait!

There IS a rumored variation on the traditional squirrel cage design that's in the development stages. It's called a "Gerbil cage", but unfortunately will only be available in asian imports for now. Film at 11:00.

I will be doing that upgrade soon, they say, depending on diet, you can increase or decrease performance. GM has tried to keep it quiet but the Gerbil is out of the bag!

Hey guys thanks for the info. I pulled out the motor yesterday and there was all kinds of leaves, bugs and a 3 inch long section of rubber seal in there. Cleaned it out and it's perfect again.

Thanks

The car was idle for a few weeks. It was winter and I cranked it up to move it. The HVAC Fan was set to high as it was winter...
The entire dash shook as the engine cranked right up and a brown haze cam out of the center vents.

At first I thought I blew the engine when the entire dash was vibrating

The brown haze gave it away. Yes it smelled,,, like a hamsrer cage. SOB!

It all cleaned up pretty easy. I got the bastard though!!!
