I think it would be cheaper to trade the car in for a new one w/ the auto a/c controls. No joking either. Jschindler, a forum member looked into doing the opposite, and it was more trouble and expense than it's worth. Trust me, you are not missing much with the auto temp control. I don't think even the GM engineers know how this thing works. Most of us can't even get the a/c compressor to turn off if we want it to. The only thing I would miss if I had the manual controls is the OAT guage. (outside air temperature)

Just for looks mainly. Even though this car will be for racing and fun. I had the dual air in my 98 and it worked fine 100K miles. At 75K I had to replace the dash unit because the LCD disappeared. I will probably stay with stock though. Gives it that base GM yet functional look :D
