Default Weatherstrip Replacement

Hello Everyone,

After a long stint in Mexico I have returned to find my wife's poor C5's weatherstripping across the top of the driver & passenger windows pretty dry rotted.

They let a lot of air seep in at 65mph and it is driving me nuts!

I would like to know if 149.99 for these two pieces is a good deal or if you know any cheaper places that could ship them to me? Or a local place (in Phoenix AZ) is good too, thanks!

For kicks and giggle I'd call the dealership and price them...

Well, the link isn't for the 2 pieces along the tops of the side windows so you'd likely be disappointed that it won't work. The link is for the 1-piece halo weatherstrip and aftermarket ones of that piece are junk.

Use Ebay for the side pieces. About $100. Or Corvettemods has them for $105. GM doesn't sell them anymore.

I have the same issue on my '04 rag top (passenger side). I checked with a quality Corvette restoration person and was told "Don't Buy Cheep" and don't replace just one piece....replace them all otherwise you will have different fit, finish, density and quality parts that will most likely never work together and seal. He recommended only using parts from Corvette America.....FWIW

I would make sure you are sitting down when you do that. I freaked at the price a couple years ago, so I bought the repro pair from a vendor, think it was $110 for the pair. Looked the same, felt the same so I was optimistic. 2 years later they are crap. So I priced OEM, the top side pieces LH and RH along with rear targa piece listed for just over $1000 for the 3 pieces, internet discount prices were right around $660. Fortunately, I found the 3 pieces NOS here on the forum for less than that. I have heard that Soft Seal makes a much better replacement, but I have no first hand experience.

I looked online and the pieces for the sides of the removable top are listed from GM again. They weren't available about 2 years ago. But still, they are almost $300 each....

At the same time, the GM halo piece was about $400 but now it's $235 so GM must have bought another production run of the different pieces. Here's hoping the quality is like the originals.

Ouch....I guess that pays for a lot of dielectric grease.

Good to know. I have suspected GM had greatly increased prices on parts as end of cycle neared so they could avoid another production run. Costs them money to store, inventory, and track until they are sold out.
