Default Tough time choosing gears...

Well since the Cerra Tuner Turbo kit has come to surface I am really rethinking gears. I know big 3.90s or 4.10s are the gears of choice in a N/A car but if I am going swing toward the single turbo making some decent HP and tq numbers. Everyone I have talked to so far says I should stick with the 3.42s and a hardened output shaft. I need to make a decision soon because I am installing my clutch and some other goodies in the next week or so and the differential will be out. Any thoughts?

4.10 BRO!!! Remember the the torque multiplier is the same across the entire RPM.

Not true with Turbos and blowers

N/A, Blown, Turbo...

Tough choice. If you plan on running the 315 BFG drag radials still, I'd say stick with 3.42s. You'll just spin like a mad man with anything else. If you're gonna do ET Streets, Hoosier 28" drags, etc, then go 3.90. I think your MPH with that single turbo (at least 135mph I'd assume) may be too high to use 4.10s. You don't wanna have to shift to 5th. Calculate your estimated trap speed with the turbo, then figure out what gear will top out in 4th at the speed. Then you'll be all set! I'm also watching the Cerra Single Turbo thread VERY closely, it should be SICK! Good luck!

Well since the highest gear ratio Getrag makes is the 3.73. I believe that would be the choice for me. I really believe that if they had an option to build the 3.90 or 4.10 they would have...they don't!!

The consequences could be devastating with all that work you've put into that car .The 3.73 is a factory sealed unit with a warranty and that would be my choice..just my .02:D

Man this is a tough choice. My gut instinct says go with the 3.90s but something tells me to stick with the 3.42s because eventually this car is going to have more HP than I can put to the tarmac. :yesnod:
