:smash: HERE'S ONE http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=139190

Just look for the slots listed in the owners manual and place a hockey puck on your floor jack pad

Get a peice of wood that spans most or all of the front crossmember, lift with wood contacting the body and put jack stands under the corners of the wood. Thats it, just like is says in the owners manual for lift points.

There was a post recently with pictures about how to jack up the car with the use of 2x6x24" boards to spread the load on the front and rear cross members.

I think this is it :D

Items needed:
4 each 2x6"s 8" long each.
2 each 2x6"s 24" long
4 each jack stands
1 floor jack.

Note: if your car is lowered you will need to place 2 each 2x6"s under the each front wheels first. Do this buy stacking 2 each 8" 2x6s and put the 24" 2x6 behind them. Drive up onto the 24" piece first then onto the double stacked 2x6s.

If your car is not lowered: Drive your car up on 4 each 2x6"s.

Then with some 24" long 2x6s jack here and place jackstands:

Let the jack down onto the jackstands:

Then go to the rear, if your jack pad on your floor jack is wide enough you can jack the rear of the car to get the 2 sets of 2x6s under the rear wheels. Place the floor jack under the rear subframe.

Let the jack back down and place a 24" 2x6 on the floorjack and jack up the rear:

WARNING: Make sure you get the jackstands under the crossmember in the rear. They need to be more inbd on each side!

then let the floor jack down:

WARNING: Make sure you get the jackstands under the crossmember in the rear. They need to be more inbd on each side!

this is what you will end up with:

You can not use this method to change the oil, because the 24" 2x6 up front will block the oil drain plug. I use rhino ramps and jack the rear to get all the oil out.

Looking at pictures 3 & 4, the jackstands contact the wood piece but there's nothing that the wood is resting on. This is a "park bench" holding about 1 ton in the middle. You wouldn't catch me working within 2 feet of a car jacked like this. Scares me even looking at it.

I'd only trust jackstands on the frame, near the sides of the car, so that you can jar and move things with confidence. I jack mine like this:

Great pictures gmblack3

I agree with pat97vette about that board under the rear. If you had those jack stands scooted in about 1 or 2 inches, it would be just right.

I tried putting a board between my jack stands and crossmember once to protect it. But the cracking noises scared me. I figure if I'm careful it would be real hard to damage that crossmember. And it's not like I have it polished under there anyway.

But great pictures and great post. I like it when folks "post with pics" :D :D

I have the last few times that I jacked the car moved the rear jackstands in a few inches each to make sure that they are under the crossmember. Thanks for pointing it out. Next time I get it up in the air I'll retake the pics of the rear.

IMO your instructions I see you using something that was designed for a lifting pad as a "Jackstand" pad? It seems to me that you are not getting full flat contact on those hockey pucks, as you state the pucks are "folding" over the jackstands. I can see using them to jack the car up due to the floorjack having contact with 100% of the hockey puck, but as a jackstand pad?

Yep! Before coming up with the double-puck design, folks on the forum were placing one puck between the jackstand and the frame (in order to protect the frame and rocker panel) and there was potential for the points of the top of the jackstand pad coming in contact with the rocker. With 2 pucks, you get confidence that you're not going to ruin your rocker. Some aftermarket pucks aren't high enough either.

The pucks are definately flexing due to the smaller area of the jackstands contacting the puck. But, when it's up on jackstands like this, I had a few people help me push and pull the car and it was 100% stable. I've been under my C5 for many reasons and each time the pucks haven't deteriorated - they pop back to shape.

I'm not trying to flame you for your jacking idea, but I just wouldn't feel safe under there. Also, I wouldn't sit in the car with it being supported mainly in the middle.

I jack mine up almost the exact same way.... except with the stands a couple inchs in so they are under the edges of the jackstand

Pat, thank you for your concern. I have used this method about a dozen times with no problems. The car is rock steady. I have been in the drivers seat(I'm 225) myself doing a brake bleed with the speedbleeders. No problems. I also did the clutch bleed on my car and a friends with him in the drivers seat and he is a "big boy" as well. We used your clutch bleed procedure and it worked great. (just a PITA to get to that clutch bleeder screw) I was thinking of reinforcing the wood with some aluminum or stainless steel .125 thick attached to the bottom where the jack and the stands make contact. I guess you can never be to safe.
